Epoxy Castable Mounting
The most common and best-performing castable resins are epoxy-based. These are two-part liquid systems consisting of a resin and hardener. Mixing ratios vary by mount size, larger mounts require less hardener. Advantages of mounting with epoxy resins include: low shrinkage, relatively clear, relatively low exotherm, excellent adhesion, excellent chemical resistance, good hardness, relatively inexpensive.
The ULTRA-3000R is a low-viscosity epoxy resin manufactured by PACE Technologies, specifically designed for metallographic mounting. It is part of their ULTRATHIN™ 2 product line, engineered to penetrate fine cracks, pores, and delicate structures in specimens.
To use this resin, it must be paired with the ULTRA-3000H Hardener.
