High-Purity Potassium Chloride for Scientific Applications 500 g

IBI potassium chloride is used primarily as a crucial in-organic salt to mimic the ion concentration of human blood plasma in Phosphate-Buffered-Saline (PBS).

In a standard 1X PBS formulation, KCl is present at a concentration of 2.7mM (or 0.2g/L) alongside Nacl, Na₂PO₄ and KH₂PO₄ to maintain osmotic balance and physiological pH.

Physiological Mimicry

KCl provides a low concentration of potassium, ensuring the buffer remains isotonic with human tissues and cells, preventing lysis or shrinkage.

Compatibility Issues

KCl can cause precipitation when interacting with SDS in SDS-PAGE Gels, so it is often omitted (using only sodium-based salts) when working with protein samples intended for electrophoresis.
