The FM820T is an upright fluorescence microscope with transmitted and reflected lighting, and a six-filter turret. The microscope is built around an infinity-corrected optical system with a wide magnification range, and Koehler diascopic and episcopic illumination. The powerful 100W, wide-spectrum, mercury-vapor episcopic illuminator uses a rotary filter-selector which can house up to six fluorescence filter-blocks; already included are ultraviolet, violet, blue, and green excitation blocks. The sub-stage illuminator uses a 30W halogen lamp with field-lens and diaphragm for even, high-contrast lighting.
Viewing Head
The microscope's head is designed for precision and comfort. The super-widefield optics provide a larger field-of-view so you can see more specimen at any magnification. Compensation-free Siedentopf interpupillary adjustment allows any user to properly align the oculars without readjusting focus. For users with astigmatism or asymmetrical vision, the left ocular can be adjusted to fine-tune focus. The photo port is equipped with a 23mm tube for attaching cameras with compensating lenses, and is height-adjustable to match focus with the eyepieces. The port is compatible with our YX series C-mount adapters which can attach directly to C-mount cameras without a compensating lens - ideal for 1" format sensors. The head is set to a 30° incline which is ideal for viewing from a standing position, and it can be rotated 360°.
Optics
The infinity-corrected optical system eliminates optical errors when using filters and other in-line components, ensuring highly precise images. The quintuple objective turret provides instant access to 5 magnification levels. This allows you to efficiently move through magnifications from 40X to 1000X. Additional 20X eyepieces expand the maximum magnification to 2000X with 8 unique levels. The turret's reversed orientation provides more working room above the stage. These high-quality lenses are achromatically corrected to improve resolution and color accuracy, with planatic flat-field correction to provide edge-to-edge sharpness.
The Stage
The 2-layer mechanical stage provides smooth and precise movement for examination of specimen slides, with a large translation range for viewing larger samples. The stage's low-position controls are conveniently placed near the coaxial focus knobs for a streamlined workflow. Examining specimen slides is intuitive and precise for users at any skill level. Symmetrical focus controls are coaxially mounted for fast, intuitive focusing. A height limit can be set to prevent contact damage, as well as presetting optimal focus distance.
Koehler Transmitted Illumination
Built on Koehler illumination principals, the sub-stage lighting provides evenly-distributed light for optimal contrast. The rear-mounted 30W halogen light-source provides 100 CRI illumination with ample brightness for contrast-enhancement methods like darkfield. The lower color temperature of the halogen light-source causes less eyestrain compared to high-Kelvin LED. The light condenser uses a swing mechanism for optimized lighting at both high and low magnifications, with a NA0.25 setting for full coverage at extremely low magnifications. An iris diaphragm allows you to adjust the aperture to optimize contrast and depth-of-field. The condenser holder uses rack-and-pinion height adjustment for precision control, and is centerable for proper alignment. The condenser is top-mounted for easier replacement when working with additional condensers. The illuminator's field lens provides an iris diaphragm to control light-spread, optimizing contrast and definition in specimen features.
Epi-fluorescence Illumination

The epi-fluorescence illumination system adds incredible versatility to the microscope. The ability to isolate fluorescing compounds allows you to target individual proteins and other nuances. This microscope is equipped with a six-position filter turret for easy transitions. Four filter blocks are already mounted (ultraviolet, violet, blue, and green) for popular labeling agents and natural fluorophores. The illuminator uses a high-power mercury arc-lamp for wide-spectrum excitation.

Mercury HBO Excitation | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mercury HBO lamps produce a wide spectrum of wavelengths, including ultraviolet. While this fluorescent light-source can excite fluorophores throughout its entire spectrum, there are peak wavelengths with optimal output.

Digital Imaging
The ultra-sensitive 0.4MP monochrome camera is the most sensitive camera we carry, with extremely fast maximum framerates. It uses a cutting-edge Sony global-shutter sensor which is designed to excel in low-light, and eliminates rolling-shutter distortion. The camera captures still images and video, and allows you to view a live stream on your PC. With software available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, it's a multi-platform imaging solution. The included Windows software offers image-development and measurement tools, as well as advanced compositing features and specialized tools for fluorescence color-mapping. Independent preview and capture resolutions allow you to view high-speed video while capturing high-definition images. For Mac and Linux, there is a lite version with limited processing features.
