Overview
The PZ620T is an indispensable instrument for mineralogists, pathologists, and any laboratory that needs a polarizing microscope that delivers on quality and versatility. The microscope is equipped to handle polarization for transmitted and reflected illumination, with a rotating stage and Bertrand lens for in-depth mineral analysis. High-power incandescent illumination and strain-free optics ensure optimal image quality for both orthoscopic and conoscopic observation over a large magnification range with seven included objective lenses.
Viewing Head
The microscope's head is designed for precision and comfort. The super-widefield optics provide a larger field-of-view so you can see more specimen at any magnification. Compensation-free Siedentopf interpupillary adjustment allows any user to properly align the oculars without readjusting focus. For users with astigmatism or asymmetrical vision, the left ocular can be adjusted to fine-tune focus. The photo port is equipped with a 23mm tube for attaching cameras with compensating lenses, and is height-adjustable to match focus with the eyepieces. The port is compatible with our YX series C-mount adapters which can attach directly to C-mount cameras without a compensating lens – ideal for 1” format sensors. The head is set to a 30° incline which is ideal for viewing from a standing position, and it can be rotated 360°.
Betrand Lens
The Bertand lens allows the user to quickly switch between normal orthoscopic and conoscopic observation. This is required to shift to the rear focal plane for proper alignment of the aperture diaphragm, and to observe interference patterns created by minerals under polarized light. The lens assembly has a slot for the included first-order, quarter-wave, and quartz-wedge retardation plates.
The Stage
The stage is designed for precise sample placement, with full stage centering and a dual-axis mechanical caliper which can accommodate varying specimen sizes. Once centered, the specimen can be rotated to locate its axis and tested for birefringence. The sub-stage polarizer can also be rotated to avoid stage movement when working with specimens with weaker birefringence.
Koehler Transmitted Illumination
Built on Koehler illumination principals, the sub-stage lighting provides evenly-distributed light for optimal contrast. The rear-mounted 100W incandescent light-source provides 100 CRI illumination with ample brightness for contrast-enhancement methods like darkfield. The lower color temperature of the halogen light-source causes less eyestrain compared to high-Kelvin LED. The light condenser uses a swing mechanism for optimized lighting at both high and low magnifications, with a NA0.25 setting for full coverage at extremely low magnifications. An iris diaphragm allows you to adjust the aperture to optimize contrast and depth-of-field. The condenser holder has an integrated, rotatable polarizer for diascopic polarization. It uses rack-and-pinion height adjustment for precision control, and is centerable for proper alignment. The condenser is top-mounted for easier replacement when working with additional condensers. The illuminator's field lens provides an iris diaphragm to control light-spread, optimizing contrast and definition in specimen features.
Koehler Reflected Illumination
The top illuminator also uses a 100W incandescent light-source to provide ample light for use with polarization. Adjustable aperture and field diaphragms offer precise control over the light field for improved contrast and edge sharpness. A removable polarizer board provides polarization for reflected illumination. The analyzer is equipped with a dial to control the angle of cross-polarization.
