Frequently Asked Questions
What is a drain valve for?
To empty tanks, lines, or housings of liquid/condensate for maintenance, sampling, shutdown, or freeze protection. It also flushes sediment and relieves pressure before service.
What are the different types of drain valves?
Ball drain valves, petcock/needle valves, boiler/water-heater drains, automatic condensate drains (float or timed), and combination shutoff valves with an integrated drain port. Our product line features brands such as: Jomar, Legris, Merrill , Midland Industries.
How often should drain valves be replaced?
No fixed interval. Replace when it leaks, won’t seal, is seized or corroded, or threads/seat are damaged. Inspect during routine service; many facilities swap the valve when the tank or heater is replaced.
How do I choose the right size and material for a drain valve?
Match connection and duty. Size for needed flow (typ. 1/4–3/4 in. NPT). Use brass for potable water, stainless for corrosive/high temp, PVC for compatible cold media. Verify pressure/temperature rating and thread standard (NPT/BSP).
