Overview
This compact device links RS-422 4-wire and RS-485 2-wire systems while using optical isolation to protect equipment and lines from damaging ground loops.
The BLACK BOX RS-422 and RS-485 Optical Isolator/Repeater enable you to connect equipment meant for a point-to-point RS-422 4-wire interface to an RS-485 2-wire multidrop system.
It can be used to optically isolate one piece of RS-485 equipment from the rest of an RS-485 system or one local group of RS-485 equipment from another, or it can be used as a repeater to expand an existing RS-485 system beyond the standard's 32-node limitation.
All data lines, as well as power and ground, are isolated from one side of the unit to the other. The RS-422 and RS-485 Optical Isolator/Repeater use terminal blocks on each side of the device. It supports Transmit Data A and B, Receive Data A and B, Protective Ground, and Signal Ground.
The RS-422 and RS-485 Optical Isolator/ Repeater operate in either 2-wire half-duplex systems or in 4-wire half-duplex or full-duplex systems. By connecting one side of the unit as a 2-wire device and one side as a 4-wire device, equipment meant for a point-to-point RS-422 interface can be connected directly to an RS-485 2-wire multidrop system.
You get the speed with the RS-422 and RS-485 Optical Isolator/Repeater, too. It features 12 user-selectable data rates, from 300 bps up to 460.8 kbps.
